Colombia’s women’s relay team finished eighth at the Athletics World
Championships in Berlin, after reaching the final earlier on Saturday.
The Colombian team, which consists of Yomara Hinestroza, Felipa Palacios, Darlenis Obregon and Norma Gonzalez, started in the second of three heats and finished second behind the Germans, clocking a time of 43.30.
In the final, things didn’t go as well as the four needed a total time of 43.71 to complete the lap. This result had them finish in eighth and last place. Not surprisingly, Jamaica took the victory ahead of Bahamas and Germany.
Although the Colombian relay team didn’t participate two years ago, it finished sixth in Helsinki 2005. Of the current team, only Hinestroza didn’t form part of that successful selection.
The best result of a Colombian athlete at the current world championships, which end on Sunday, was achieved by Luis Lopez who finished fifth at the 20 Kilometers Race Walk.
