Colombian rock group Aterciopelados were chosen to perform at a concert to mark the 64th anniversary of the conception of the United Nations.
The group will perform their hit, ‘The Price of Silence’ at the ceremony in New York on Friday October 23, reported news site RCN on Monday.
The song is intended to be “a message from the heart. Hoping to reconstruct the scale of values in which our planet and it’s people come first,” confirmed lead vocalist Andrea Echeverry.
According to the group’s producer and manager, Hector Buitrago, the opportunity came about from “an Australian Aborigine, also working for the UN, who offered an informal invitiation to Andrea to perform a piece [at the UN ceremony].”
The group, formed in the Colombian capital Bogota in 1990 and now revered throughout Latin America, had a previous hit song, ‘Protesta’, turned into an Amnesty International anthem for peace.
