According to Raul Ortíz, mayor of the municipality of Hacarí, heavy rains that hit the jungle region caused the avalanche. “There are people missing and there are people dead, is what we’ve just been told,” the mayor said.The victims are families who had just moved to the area, after having fled the violence in Norte de Santander, where guerrillas, paramilitaries and drug traffickers are very active.
