At least 14 prisoners fled a prison in southwest Colombia after outside helpers set off explosives and opened fire on prison guards, Colombian media reported Sunday.
The prison is located in the town of Tumaco, a town on the Pacific coast considered one of the main exit ports for Colombian coca.
According to Spanish press agency EFE, as many as 20 prisoners were able to break jail.
Among the prisoners who fled the prison are a number of FARC guerrillas, authorities say, not ruling out that members of other illegal armed groups were able to escape.
