The ninth edition of the International Art Fair of Bogota (ArtBo) opens for the public on Friday after its inauguration on Thursday evening.  There will be over 65 galleries featuring artists from 21 different countries.

The Colombian capital’s largest art fair will offer forums and exhibitions that will showcase plastic and visual art from Colombia and abroad.  Since its first iteration nine years ago, the fair has become a “transcendent” event for Colombia’s art community, according to news outlet Terra.

It has become an excellent place to discover new talent, according to organizers of the international event.

“The fair is part of a strategy by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota to promote and position Bogota as a destination for culture and investment, as a dynamic city,” said president of the Chamber, Monica de Greiff.

There will be three themed pavilions featuring works of art, and an academic forum continue throughout the event.  The first pavilion, the Art Chamber, features 27 rising young artists. The second Pavilion of Galleries has 65 exhibitions featuring 21 countries including Mexico, the United States, England, Cuba, France and Switzerland. And the third Joint Pavilion offers a dynamic space where children can learn about the artworks and meet artists.

The fair will be open to the public for just four days concluding on October 28.  In 2012, the eight edition of the fair received almost 20,000 visitors.

Many of the galleries are located in the center of the city near the National University, but a full map of all locations can be viewed here.
