Colombia’s army has captured an alleged FARC drug lab and more than 2 tons of cocaine in southwest Nariño department.
Troops seized 2,121 kilograms of cocaine from the lab, which spanned 5,400 square meters, roughly the size of a U.S. football field, according to an army statement.
Soldiers from an infantry battalion near the town of Funes discovered and secured the complex, which included housing for between 18 and 20 “terrorists” and belonged to the FARC’s 48th Front, the army said.
The discovery came weeks after soldiers in Nariño found hidden stockpiles of weapons in early April, also alleged to have belonged to the FARC, and a gold mine in March, said to be jointly owned by the FARC and the Rastrojos drug trafficking organization.
