The Colombian army still has no clue of the whereabouts of the ten
farmers who were kidnapped Saturday from a village 100 kilometers south
of Bogotá.
More than 450 members of the security forces are searching for the hostages and the guerrillas that allegedly kidnapped them, commander Pedro León Soto of the seventh brigade told Caracol Radio.
According to the army general, the area has always been a guerrilla stronghold, but is now controlled by the army.
The ten farmers were kidnapped from a small town in the Meta department Saturday by members of the FARC’s 26th front, León Soto said.
The army thinks the farmers were taken hostage to be forced to work for the guerrillas. None of the hostages reportedly have the economic capacity to serve for extortion.
