The army said Tuesday it found the body of one the victims of a south
Colombia massacre among indigenous Awá. The FARC admitted having killed
eight indigenous because they allegedly were army informants.
According to the armed forces, the body was found Monday near Tangaral, a small village in the Nariño department.
“The corps had around 50 mines around it, aiming to cause harm to indigenous people who sought to bury it,” General Leonardo Barrero of the army’s 27th brigade told Caracol Radio.
Authorities begun clearing the area of mines, so the body can be removed and buried and investigators can enter the scene to gather evidence.
The FARC earlier Tuesday admitted to having killed eight Awá. According to the guerrillas, the indigenous had admitted being informants for the army and were executed.
Indigenous and human rights organizations say the FARC killed 27 Awá.
