Troops in Colombia’s Caribbean region find a clandestine airstrip thought to be used for narco-trafficking by the drug gang “Los Rastrojos,” newspaper El Espectador reported Tuesday.
Troops from the Joint Caribbean Command found the airstrip at “Corral Viejo,” near the municipality of San Benito de Abad, Sucre, in the north of Colombia.
Military sources said the airstrip was discovered thanks to military intelligence and the cooperation of an informant, reported the newspaper.
Several gallons of gasoline used to fuel aircraft were found and destroyed by the troops.
Los Rastrojos, a descendant of the Norte del Valle Cartel, mostly controls drug trafficking on the Pacific coast of Colombia but has strong holds in a third of the country’s 32 departments.
