The Colombian army Monday claimed to have killed more than 25 members of the FARC in combat forty miles east of Cali.
On Saturday, press agency AFP reported 18 guerrillas and soldiers had died in heavy fighting in the mountainous region over the past week.
According to W Radio, the army now claims 25 guerrillas were killed in the rural area close to the town of Corinto where the army’s Third Brigade started an offensive against the FARC’s 6th front.
The area where the fighting is taking place, on the border of the Cauca, Valle and Tolima departments, is a FARC stronghold. Authorities suspect members of the guerrillas’ Secretariat to be hiding in the mountains in the region.
