The Colombian military announced the rescue of a fourth FARC hostage, William Donato, in the army’s Operation Chameleon. The rescue of three other hostages was confirmed on Sunday.
According to previous reports, Colonel Donato was known to be alive but had been separated from the other three hostages in the jungle. The hostage was located on Monday morning and is now in the care of the Colombian armed forces.
Donato, who was kidnapped by the FARC in 1998 in an anti-narcotics military base in Miraflores, is the final FARC hostage to be rescued in a military operation carried out Sunday in the department of Guaviare.
Hostages General Luis Mendieta, Colonel Luis Enrique Murillo and Sergeant Arbey Argote were also rescued in an operation involving more than 300 members of Colombia’s armed forces.
All four men are said to be in good health and are being held in the jungle until they can be transferred to the nearest military base.
