Military forces have discovered and dismantled a hidden compound belonging to the left-wing guerrilla group the FARC in the southern department of Caqueta, El Espectador reported Tuesday.
The camp, made up of eight trenches of approximately five feet by five feet, reportedly had a capacity of around 80 guerrillas. The compound was quite elaborate, complete with a kitchen, bedrooms, strategic observation points, and tunnels.
“The continuing offensive operations advanced by troops of the Algeciras Task Force against that illegal structure shows that they are found replicated in the most inhospitable areas of the department of Caqueta,” said a unidentified military source.
Authorities believe the camp belonged to the Teofilo Ferera Column. The inhabitants apparently left in an hurry in anticipation of the raid, leaving behind weapons and communications equipment.
The military was unable to capture any guerrillas in the discovery.
