Colombia’s national parks director said Thursday an environmental license has been issued that permits the construction of a new hotel in Tayrona Park, despite the fact that the Colombian government recently rejected a proposal to build a seven-star mega-hotel in the same area.
National Parks Director Julia Miranda confirmed with W Radio that the approved environmental license would allow 12 eco-cabañas to be build in an area of roughly 15 square miles on the Caribbean coast.
Environmental Minister Frank Pearl said although the Colombian government had rejected the original Tayrona Park hotel proposal the new eco-cabaña project would be managed by the same party that had pushed the previous development project.
Lawyer Alejandrop Arias said that the “environmental Resolution 0631 from April 3, 2009 the Ministry of Environment, Housing, and Territorial Development granted an environmental license for the eco-tourism project ‘Los Ciruelos’ located in Tayrona National Park in the land adjacent to the northeastern shore of Bahia Concha, at the height of Los Ciruelos beach, licensed to the name of Julio Sanchez Sierra, the owner of the land.”
