Altavoz, Medellín’s alternative to Rock Al Parque

by Adriaan Alsema October 9, 2008
1.6K

Altavoz is a three day music festival held in Medellín on October 11,
12 and 13. In it’s five-year existence it grew from a one-day festival
of local bands to a three-day festival with even a few international acts.

The festival, to be held at the cancha cinquentenario (near the metrostation of the University of Antioquia) is kind of the little brother of Bogotá Rock Al Parque. A very little brother though. Rock Al Parque attracts over 400,000 people and it’s still to be seen if Altavoz will come close to the 100,000.

The lack of real internationally known acts — The ones coming may be international, but outside Latin America completely unkown — will not cause a massive flow of Colombians to visit the capital of Antioquia.

The festival over time may get the chance to develop to something to be taken seriously. For this year’s edition it’s just another thing to do. And it’s free.
