Afro Colombian jazz fusion group Ale Kuma are to perform at the National Univesity in Bogota on Thusday 3 June, to pay tribute to the legendary former member, Etelvina Maldonado, who passed away in January at the age of 75.
Maldonado had been a hugely popular musician in traditional cirles of the Caribbean Coast, but found stardom after the release of the Ale Kuma album in 1996, which was produced by Leonardo Gomez and featured singers from both the Colombian Atlantic and Pacific coasts accompanied by a jazz group.
“Etelvina was one of the pillars of bullerengue [music] and a woman that showed the power of the Caribbean region through her music,” said Paula Marcela Moreno Zapata, Colombia’s Minister of Culture.
The show will be at the university’s Leon De Greiff Auditorium, with ticket prices ranging from COP20,000 to 40,000.
