Local authorities seized 2.2 tons of marijuana Friday in the state of Cauca in southern Colombia.
The marijuana was reportedly hidden in a truck police say belonged to FARC rebel group, the country’s largest guerrilla organization and one the area’s prominent marijuana cultivators.
The operation, which reportedly used informants to locate the vehicle, took place in the municipality of Corinto as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the country.
Upon locating the vehicle, authorities found various packets containing organic plant matter, which later was confirmed to be marijuana, according to the official report.
The drugs are believed to have been on their way to Cali, Colombia’s third largest city, and the site of one of Colombia’s most active gang-driven drug markets.
