Colombian opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba on Thursday filed a criminal complaint against the country’s Inspector General for allegedly illegally starting an investigation against her over the Senator’s alleged ties to FARC.
Cordoba’s complaint will be filed before the Supreme Court and alleges that IG Alejandro Ordoñez engaged in “willful misconduct” and knowingly violated Colombian laws against the use of evidence that has not been collected according to standard legal procedures.
“I denounce the investigation as a lie because he (Ordoñez) is opening an investigation on the basis of illegally-obtained evidence, and among other reasons,” the senator said in a press release.
In April, Ordoñez announced that is office had compiled a list of charges against Cordoba about her supposed links to FARC outside the capacity of being a hostage release negotiator, which would be illegal, and even went as far as to say that the senator had committed “treason against the homeland.”
The inspector general claimed that the allegations are based on evidence found in deceased FARC leader “Raul Reyes’” files, and that a woman corresponding as “Teodora Bolivar” is in fact the Senator communicating with Reyes.
