The Colombian government on Monday announced that it is ready to send humanitarian aid to those Central American countries suffering the effects of Tropical Storm Agatha, reported W Radio.
The Foreign Ministry says that Colombia’s representatives in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are alert to “the assistance that may be required by these sister nations.”
The tropical cyclone, which began a path of destruction through the Central American countries two days ago, has left over 100 people dead and destroyed countless homes and public buildings.
One of Agatha’s most serious effects so far was to open a 30m-wide “sinkhole” in a northern district of Guatemala City, which swallowed a three story building.
The Colombian government said, “Colombia is in solidarity with these countries and their people, and sends its condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives in these events.”
