Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Monday officially appointed his former personal secretary, Alicia Arango, as the country’s new ambassador to the United Nations (UN) in Switzerland, reports Colombian media.
Arango, who worked for eight years as Uribe’s right hand in Colombia’s government headquarters Casa de Nariño, will shortly take on the position as her country’s representative to the UN in Geneva.
The new ambassador has worked in a number government roles in the past, including holding a position as director general of the District Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD) during the administration of former Bogota Mayor Enrique Peñalosa and working as adviser for the head of the Colombian Institute for Family Well-being (ICBF).
A ceremony was held yesterday in Switzerland to officially welcome Arango into the role.
