LAN reaches agreement with pilots to end ‘no overtime’ protest in Colombia

by Peter Bolton October 21, 2013

One of South America’s largest airlines, LAN, has reached an agreement to end the industrial action that was initiated earlier this month by some of their pilots over a dispute about fringe benefits.

The corporate affairs director of LAN Colombia, Maria Lara, said that the two parties had reached an agreement and that the industrial action in which pilots refused to work overtime would cease immediately.

Talks between the company and the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC) had been going on for two weeks and had involved 29 of the airline’s unionized pilots. The agreement will apply retroactively to the 29 pilots who are part of the ACDAC.

MORE: Pilots’ industrial action will not affect LAN schedule

A spokesperson from LAN said, “we had a disagreement with some pilots affiliated with ACDAC about extra-legal issues, what was done was to agree what were the conditions to deliver those benefits.”

LAN released a statement on labor policy stating that LAN Colombia is committed to the rights of its employees and is respectful of the country’s labor laws. It added that the company would be happy to meet with and discuss the terms of employments with all of its workers.
