Colombia’s Inspector General’s Office announced that it will be investigating a further sixteen employees of the government security agency DAS for their suspected involvement in the agency’s illegal wiretapping activity.
According to W Radio, the Inspector General released sixteen more names of DAS officials suspected of participating in the agency’s illegal surveillance and wiretapping of judges, journalists, opposition politicians and trade unionists.
The announcement follows news that the Inspector General’s office will require Colombian President Alvaro Uribe to sign an affidavit outlining what he knew about the wiretapping carried out by members of security agency DAS.
Supreme Court President Jaime Arrubla, DAS director Felipe Muñoz and Polo Democratico leader Gustavo Petro have also been called upon to provide the prosecutor general with information relevant to the case.
