Five of the six victims who were killed Sunday morning after police released pepper gas into a locked bar in south Bogota have been named by newspaper Semana.
The victims were as follows: Leidy Katherine Corner of 21 years, Ana Rada Puche Teodista 26, Johana Leydi Nunez, 26, Andres Camilo Rincon Romero, 24, and Andrea Pinzon Salgado, 23, and another woman who could not be identified due to lack of documentation.
The tragedy occurred in a bar in the San Jose neighborhood, where police were called to the scene at approximately 5AM on Sunday.
Officers had information regarding a brawl involving numerous people inside the premises and in an attempt to control the situation, released pepper gas into the building, “sparking chaos in the premises” according to Caracol. The doors of the building were locked however, meaning that individuals could not escape.

According to Semana, Gustavo Petro, the Mayor of Bogota said that “people may not have died had the police not intervened.”
The National Police expressed their condolences via a press release and confirmed that two officers had been removed from office pending further investigation.
