One of the most prominent crime lords of Colombia’s capital Bogota was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday for numerous criminal charges.

The Eighth Special Court of Bogota sentenced Marco Antonio Gil Garzon, alias “El Papero,” to six years in prison after the assailant plead guilty to counts of drug trafficking, money laundering and illicit enrichment.

In addition, the court ordered a fine of 12,713 times the legal monthly minimum wage and denied alternative methods of prohibiting freedom such as house arrest in an effort to postpone jail time.

The court seized 18 properties from “El Papero” including houses, lots and estates located all over Colombia, vehicles, a company, and almost $4 million.

Witnesses from the United States testified against “El Papero” asserting that he was in charge of sending huge amounts of cocaine between Medellin and Houston.

Several high-profile government officials, many affiliated with Colombia’s ex-President Alvaro Uribe, have been investigated due to alleged ties with “El Papero,” due to the assailant testifying against officials in return for reduced jail time.
