Heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning wreaked havoc across several Colombian cities, causing landslides, floods, and car accidents, and leaving several people dead in its wake, reports Caracol Radio.
In the central Colombian city of Medellin, authorities report that heavy rains have already caused two deaths and 74 injuries from car accidents stemming from the rain.
In Cali, firefighters report that the Cauca river has overflowed, and has stretched the efforts of emergency workers’ thin, as they rush to respond to the flooding, landslides, and traffic accidents. Authorites report that at least twelve neighborhoods in the city face serious problems due to overflowing sewage systems drainage canals.
Similiar reports have come in from Bucaramanga and the interior department of Risaraldo involving floods that have forced many people to leave their homes.
So far this rainy season has left 20,000 Colombians homeless and many more have had to evacuate from their homes, due to fears of landslides.
