A FARC fighter being held in Colombian prison claims that the guerrilla group supported two mayors and a Partido de la U congressman in the central Cundinamarca department, reports CM&.
The former financial chief of FARC’s 22nd Front, alias “Adan,” provided testimony stating that he had met with and given political support to Partido de la U’s Jose Ignacio Bermudez, who was elected to Colombian Congress in March.
The guerrilla also claimed that the FARC supported the mayors in the municipalities of Bituima and Chaguani, providing the men with personal security details.
FARC-politics, like “parapolitics,” is an ongoing scandal implicating politicians across Colombia’s political spectrum in having illicit links to illegal armed groups.
The most recent and high-profile case of FARC-politics involves opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba, who formally had charges brought her against on Monday by Colombia’s Inspector General, based on evidence allegedly seized from the computers of the late FARC leader “Raul Reyes.”
