Preview: Liga Postobon Week 16

by Jonathan Roorda May 1, 2010
1.6K

The regular season of the Colombian Liga Postobon is nearing its end and many teams are still in contention for a top four classification.

This week’s action begins on Saturday with a top clash between leaders Deportes Tolima and second-placed Independiente Medellin. Whichever team wins this game, is practically certain of a spot in the semi finals.

Tolima lost last week’s game 4-3 at La Equidad while Medellin had a tough couple of weeks with defeats at La Equidad and Corinthians, the latter being in the Copa Libertadores.

While Medellin often finish higher in the league, they have had the greatest of difficulties with Tolima in recent years as all of the three last games ended in defeats. The total goal count in those games had Tolima score eight and concede just two.

It should be a close game but Tolima are again favored to secure the win.

Third-placed Santa Fe play a potentially tough away match to Copa Libertadores participants Once Caldas on Sunday, but may be able to profit from a lack of energy on Once’s side after the Manizales outfit faced Paraguayan team Libertad just three days earlier.

Junior, who complete the top four, play a home match against Cortulia. Fifth-placed La Equidad, who are in decent shape at the moment, play away to Millonarios in a Bogota derby.
