Colombia’s Union of Registrar Workers warns that if the presidential election ballot papers are transported to Bogota for counting following the close of the polls, it will take several weeks to establish the winner of the Colombian Presidential election, reports El Espectador.
Union President Daniel Bohorquez said that to transport the ballot papers is unconstitutional. He added that the judges of the National Election Council had overstepped their constitutional obligations, by transporting the ballot papers to Bogota Colombia’s Congressional election last March 14.
Bohorquez warned that if the same thing happens with the presidential election, it could take several weeks to determine Colombia’s next president.
The Registry and National Election Council have both been heavily criticized for their handling of the congressional election March 14.
