The FARC said in a statement Thursday that all Colombia’s presidential candidates offer “continuity” with Uribe’s policies, and do not offer hope for solving the country’s problems, reports Terra.
Pablo Catatumbo, head of FARC’s underground political movement, the Bolivarian Movement for a New Colombia (MBNC), released a statement on the organization’s website to mark the 10th anniversary of the party.
Catatumbo said that all of the candidates up for election are in line with Uribe’s policies on the internal conflict, which the guerrilla leader described as “the main problem facing Colombia.”
“The candidates, all following the orders of their Yankee master, only offer more continuity, more authoritarianism and more bullets,” said Catatumbo.
The FARC leader said that none of the candidates would “offer a real solution to the national problems,” nor a “change of course” as all of the candidates are “neo-liberal.”
Catatumbo claimed that Partido de la U’s candidate, Juan Manuel Santos, is a “new paramilitary ruler” while the Antanas Mockus-Sergio Farjado campaign alliance represents a rising middle-class that are focused on acquiring big “infrastructure projects.”
The country “needs to overcome this dark period of corruption, social injustice, militarization, repression, backwardness and violence which is imposed from above and has eaten away at us for over five centuries,” Catatumbo said.
The MBNC leader said that the country needed to “persist in the task of grassroots organizing” and the adoption of “the Bolivarian project.”
