US judge rejects ex-boyfriend’s lawsuit against Shakira

A Los Angeles judge on Thursday rejected a lawsuit against Shakira by her ex. The judge ruled the case should be settled in her native Colombia.

The singer’s former boyfriend and fiance, Antonio de la Rua, has made repeated claims that he helped to “shape” the Shakira brand and should therefore be entitled to a proportion of her earnings — he had attempted to sue her for a reported $250 million.

This is not the first time that Rua has tried to sue his former lover. The son of the former Argentinian president Fernando de la Rua has previously tried to do so in Switzerland and New York but was denied access to Shakira’s accounts.

According to the British newspaper The Daily Mail, Shakira claims to have “proof” in the form of an email from 2006 in which Rua admits he has no claim to her earnings.

American press reported that Shakira’s attorney Daniel Wall had accused Rua of “scouring courts” to get his case heard.
