Colombian presidential candidate Sergio Fajardo said that the “doors are open” for a possible political union between himself and Green Party presidential candidate Antanas Mockus, Colombian media reported Friday.

Fajardo told El Tiempo that he is willing to meet with the Green Party candidate to discuss the possibility of forming a united front for the first round of Colombia’s presidential elections in May – a move that he considers “coherent” to the political agendas of both independents.

“We have our doors open … We share common elements with what Antanas Mockus has worked towards, we have to have discussions about the methods of electioneering; we are discussing principles and proposals for any kind of collaboration that we may have,” said independent candidate Fajardo.

According to reports, the two candidates are not seeking an “adhesion” of political ideologies, but rather a mutual collaboration and sharing of campaign strategies, programs and personnel.

Mockus indicated, however, that for the time being talks between the two candidates are to remain “discreet.”

A recent study by polling agency Gallup, which asked 1,200 pollsters to indicate their voting intentions in May election, left Fajardo with one of the lowest percentages of votes (6.1%), whilst Mockus fared better with 10.4% of the total number of votes.
