The local police commander told press agency EFE that three other policemen were seriously injured in the explosion. One of the officials was taken to Medellin in critical condition.

The bomb, hidden in a plastic bag, allegedly had been left at the front of the police station by two men.

According to independent news website Territorio Chocoano, the explosive was thrown at the policemen by two men passing on a motorbike.

Authorities made no comments regarding the possible perpetrators of the attack.
