Medina is suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a local lawmaker in Bucaramanga, Santander. The politician accuses her of having ties with Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN), the rebel group that allegedly kidnapped them both for ransom in 2000.Medina’s lawyer claims Medina simply was a victim of the crime, but the lawmaker accuses medina of speaking to the kidnappers in a commanding tone and seemed connected to them.Medina is already sentenced to 3,5 years house arrest after she admitted having accepted a government bribe to vote in favor of a constitutional change needed to re-elect Colombian President Álvaro Uribe.The conviction caused a constitutional crisis. The Constitutional Court is investigating whether the elections weren’t illegal, because of the bribery.Uribe, furious about the court’s decision, accused the Court of trying to take revenge for not consulting the extradition of paramilitary warlords in May and wants a popular referendum about a rerun of the election, without waiting the results of the investigation.
