Preview: Liga Postobon week 10

by Jonathan Roorda March 27, 2010
1.4K

Real Cartagena defend their lead in the Colombian Liga Postobon in an away match to Deportivo Pereira on Saturday, while Bogota’s traditional teams face off for the second time in a week a day later.

Cartagena’s confidence should be through the roof after last week’s 0-3 win at Deportivo Pereira, which leaves them six points clear at the top. Deportivo Pereira are currently in ninth place but he gap with the top four is only two points. As such, the hosts will do anything to win this game and possibly reignite their title campaign.

Pereira have good memories from their last encounter with Cartagena in this very same stadium, where the hosts beat their guests 2-1 in December.

On Sunday, Millonarios and Santa Fe meet again after having done so a week ago. This gives Millonarios an immediate chance to take revenge as Sante Fe won last week’s encounter 2-1.

The match is certainly most vital for Santa Fe, who need another win in order to stay close or even get into the top four.

Another important game on Sunday is the match between Deportes Tolima and America de Cali. Tolima are in second place and well on course for a spot in the semi finals. America de Cali’s season seems hopeless, and the question is how motivated they will be ahead of this clash.

Third-placed Junior will try to recover from last week’s humiliation by Cartagena, preferably with a win over Cucuta Deportivo. Independiente Medellin, currently in fourth but with a game in hand, play close to home in an away match to nearby Envigado.

Full schedule:

Saturday
6:20 Pereira – Cartagena
8:30 Cali – Chico

Sunday
3:00 Envigado – Medellin
3:30 La Equidad – Cortulua
3:30 Tolima – America
3:30 Quindio – Once Caldas
3:30 Junior – Cucuta
5:45 Millonarios – Santa Fe
