Colombia’s army said Friday the FARC might be planning a wave of terrorist attacks in the country’s major cities, following the alleged arrival of two guerrilla bomb experts in the capital Bogota and the seizure of explosives in Cali.
According to newspaper El Espectador, army intelligence has discovered a possible terrorist plot that may be of national scope.
The newspaper says that the terrorist attacks are intended to damage the reputation of the government’s democratic security policy, in order to weaken the influence of President Alvaro Uribe before the presidential elections due May 30.
On Wednesday, nine people were killed after a bomb car exploded in the center of Buenaventura, a city on the Pacific coast, in the department of Valle del Cauca.
