Police in the southwest of Colombia said Wednesday they have seized a truck containing 6.6 tons of marijuana.

According to Colombia’s highway patrol, the truck was intercepted in Palmira, a municipality in the Valle del cauca department where police have claimed several major drug busts over the past few months.

In the most recent seizure, police found the approximately 6,000 kilograms of marijuana in a truck that was destined to go to the capital Bogota after a stop in the city of Ibague.

According to weekly Semana, the drugs originated from the northeast of the Cauca department where there has been an alleged boom in the cultivation of por for the domestic consumption market.

The seized drugs have a street value of at least $1.8 million, police said.

“With this [interception], we have avoided the circulation of millions of doses” of the illicit substance, Highway Patrol commander Francisco Patiño told press.

In the first half of the year, police said they have been able to intercept at least 39 tons of pot in the Valle department alone.
