Four of Colombia’s cities were recently ranked among top 25 destinations in South America by travel website Trip Advisor.

Colombia’s top travel destinations

  1. Cartagena
  2. Bogota
  3. Santa Marta
  4. Cali

Among Trip Advisor’s “Top 25 destinations – South America,” were the Colombian cities of Cartagena, Bogota, Santa Marta and Cali.

The Caribbean city of Cartagena was ranked Colombia’s number one spot to visit. The city’s excellent beaches, historic old town and architecture was enough to make the city South America’s seventh most recommended spot to visit.

Colombia’s capital Bogota was ranked the second most popular spot in the country, overall South America’s number 12th most recommended city. The capital was described as vibrant and passionate. Among the top places to visit in the capital are the Gold museum and the city view from the Monserrate church.

The third most recommended Colombian city was Santa Marta, ranking as number 20 in the continent. Trip Advisor described the city as romantic and embraced the nearby beaches. Moreover, close to the city tourists can find Tayrona National Park – a perfect sport for a day hike.

Closely behind, ranked number four in Colombia and 21 in South America was the southwestern city of Cali. According to Trip Advisor the city has countless of opportunities for sports adventures, in local parks, mountains and deserts. The city was also praised to reflect the area’s rich indigenous history.

Not on the Trip Advisor list was Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city and second largest recipient of foreign visitors.
