Bogota fought off competition from Medellin and Cali to secure the title of best city in Colombia for investment, researchers said Wednesday.
In the list compiled by the Bogota-based Rosario University and the Chilean company Business Intelligence, five Colombian cities gained top-30 positions in the regional ranking.

The Colombian capital ranked fifth for the second year running and was beaten only by tough Latin American competitors such as Santiago, Chile (1st) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (2nd).
According the report, Bogota was aided by its high quality universities and improved security measures.
Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city, came in 13th and made a remarkable 12-place improvement on its 2012 ranking of 25th place.
Cali also improved significantly, jumping 10 places to take the position of Latin America’s 20th most attractive city for investment.
Barranquilla and Bucaramanga followed, scoring 27th and 28th respectively, a marginal improvement of one place apiece on last year’s results.
The annual ranking consists of 48 cities rated on a number of different criteria, including international reputation, investment climate, human capital and urban comfort. The most prominent nations on the list are Brazil, with eight ranked cities, and Mexico with seven.
