Colombian government headquarters Casa de Nariño announced that President Alvaro Uribe will resume transmission of the town-hall meetings that he holds weekly around the country, reports radio Caracol.
Colombia’s Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez advised the president to suspend the broadcasts in January, after candidates for the 2010-2014 presidency complained that the broadcasts could unfairly favor Uribe if he was allowed to run for a third term.
However, following the Constitutional Court’s decision to rule against a referendum that would allow Uribe to run for a third term, the Colombian president has been advised that he may continue with the weekly broadcasts that are designed to put him in closer contact with the citizens.
