Preview: Liga Postobon Week 5

by Jonathan Roorda February 20, 2010
1.1K

Real Cartagena continue the defending of their top spot in the Colombian Liga Postobon with a home match against America de Cali on Sunday.

Cartagena earned ten points from their first four matches and have yet to lose their first game this season. In midweek, the leaders did drop their first two points, being held to a 2-2 draw by Santa Fe.

America are struggling and earned only four points from their first four games this season. Moreover, the Red Devils lost 0-1 to newly promoted Cortulua in midweek and pressure will certainly be mounting in Cali.

Real Cartagena won both of the last two encounters with America, most recently a 0-1 victory in August last year.

Bookmakers expect the team of the coastal town to add another three points to their season account.

The fifth match day starts on Saturday with a high profile clash between Atletico Nacional and Atletico Junior. Nacional finally got their first win of the season at Quindio on the weekend, while Junior are comfortably in second place and are one of only three teams to be without defeat so far.

On Sunday, eyes will also be on the clash between Cortulua and defending champions Independiente Medellin. Cortulua are currently in fourth place after two impressive wins in the last week, and the question is whether the newcomers will also form a threat to a Medellin side that appears to be less dominant as last year’s.
