The Facebook community objects the construction of a pipeline to get rid of crude oil waste product naphtha. A pipeline needed, Ecopetrol says, to start drilling for crude oil in Tocancipa, in the southern department of Meta.The nearest naphta storage is a 100 miles away, in Castilla. Ecopetrol has been able to transport the waste product by road so far, but sending trucks with the heavily polluted substance through the mountains isn’t just very slow, it’s also dangerous in an area where the roads aren’t exactly the best of Colombia and the FARC is very active.The problem – and main consern of the virtual protesters – is that the area between Tocancipa and Castilla is one of the most important enviromental parts of the country, because of its water springs.Deputy Enviroment Minister, Juan Lozano is cautious about allowing Ecopetrol to dig the pipeline. He said the project is “difficult and complicated”, but refuses to elaborate on the subject until his department has studied the issue further.Meanwhile, the number of facebook members objecting the plan is growing fast. It counted 2000 members on Friday and 3500 on Sunday after the publication in El Espectador.
