Colombian cement company Argos has bought 50% of Surinamian company Vensur N.V. for $3.2 million.
Company representatives said that the deal is part of Argos’ expansion plans, and that it is intended to ensure a market for the 1.8 million tonnes of cement that will be produced at Argos’ new plant in the Caribbean city of Cartagena.
“The alliance will allow sales of clinker [cement limestone cooked or raw] and cement of between 90,000 and 150,000 tonnes per year,” the Argos representatives added.
Argos is the largest cement producer in Colombia and the fifth largest in Latin America. It has a production capacity of 13.3 million tonnes per year, with fourteen plants in Colombia, Panama, Haiti and Dominican Republic.
