The commander of the armed forces has revealed the internal investigation over the leaking of military information to ex-President Alvaro Uribe will provide results within the next few days.
“We are very close to establishing the truth, to finding out who is responsible, who is the traitor [that is] leaking information,” said General Alejandro Navas on Wednesday.
The investigation was put in place after Uribe revealed sensitive military information, including the exact coordinates of an armed forces operation to allow negotiators from left wing rebel group FARC to join the peace talks in Havana, Cuba.

Uribe, who released the information via Twitter, claimed that the information was already public and that he was simply spreading it, however the army remain convinced that the former president gained the information through a contact in the army.
Navas declared that the culprit has yet to be discovered as the investigation has been carried out “at a steady pace, [so as] to not make mistakes as it is a matter of national security.”
The general added that whoever is found guilty will have to reply to charges of espionage, which is classified as a form of treason in the penal code.
