Nigeria has launched an operation to rescue four people, including one Colombian national, who were kidnapped yesterday in the south of the country, police announced on Wednesday.
A police spokesman told Bloomberg that the kidnappers have not yet made contact to ask for a ransom, but said “we are closing in on them.”
A 2 million naira ($13,250) reward has been offered for information that helps the rescue effort.
The four hostages work for Royal Dutch Shell Plc, and were attacked while travelling in a convoy near Port Harcourt on Tuesday morning. A Nigerian security guard was killed in the attack.
Kidnapping for ransom is common in the oil-rich, but poor African country.
