Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC accepted responsibility for the recent kidnapping and murder of Caqueta governor Luis Francisco Cuellar.
According to a press release on the website of press agency Anncol, the reason for the kidnapping was not to kill the governor nor hold him for ransom, but instead to hold an impeachment trial for the governor’s alleged corruption.
The FARC statement goes on to assert that the blame for the death of Cuellar lies in the hands of Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, who ordered Colombian armed forces to rescue the kidnapped governor immediately after he was taken from his house on December 21.
Finally, the statement reiterated their intention to free soldiers Pablo Emilio Moncayo and Joshua Daniel Calvo.
The statement was signed on December 24, and filled with various insults against Uribe.
