Colombian singer Juanes proposed a mega concert with artist members of ‘Peace without Borders’ to take place on the U.S.-Mexico border at the end of 2010.
Juanes stated in interview that he wants “to do something following the Havana concert (held in September) but there is still not date,” and he detailed that he had spoken with Spanish musician Miguel Bose “about doing something at the Mexico – United States frontier.”
Juanes suggested that the concert could take place at the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011, reported news site Terra.
“We will end this year and then in 2010 take another path with Paz sin Fronteras. Miguel (Bose) is eager to do a concert on the border between Colombia and Ecuador and also the border between Mexico and the United States,” said the singer.
“The idea is that, slowly, we can, through music, render the concept of peace much more constant and with the intention, in the long term, to have the right to live in peace registered in the Charter of Human Rights.”
With regards to other endeavours Juanes noted that he is currently working on his new album “which will be recorded in the first half of next year, and will go on sale in the second half.”
The singer, who has never shied away from commenting on his country’s situation, emphasized his view that “I do not think there can be progress toward peace [in Colombia] until we change the drug policies because the issue is largely due to drug trafficking and drug problems.”
Juanes concluded that “almost every problem we have, like the paramilitaries and the guerrillas, as well as common criminals and the mafia, it’s all linked to drugs, while [we continue fighting war against drugs] there will continue to be war, bullets and blood.”
