Santa Fe and Pasto reach Copa Colombia final

by Jonathan Roorda November 5, 2009
1.4K

Independiente Santa Fe and Deportivo Pasto are through to the final of the Copa Colombia, beating Atletico Nacional and Atletico Junior respectively.

Santa Fe needed to overcome a 2-1 defeat in the first leg and started well with goals from Luis Seijas in the 23rd minute and Cristian Nazarit in the 27th.

Humberto Mendoza pulled one back in minute 59, but Mario Gonzalez restored the two-goal gap 11 minutes later.

Nacional kept focus however and Alejandro Bernal hit the target for 3-2 in the 72nd minute, which meant that a penalty shoot-out was required at Bogota’s Campin stadium.

In the shoot-out, Mendoza and Ezequiel Maggiolo missed while Santa Fe scored all of their spot kicks for a 4-2 result.

In the other semi final, Deportivo Pasto had little to fear from Junior after beating the Barranquilla outfit 3-1 in the first leg.

And Pasto again took the initiative with an opening goal from Omar Rodriguez in the 21st minute, although Carlos Bacca levelled from the penalty spot in the 58th.

Although Junior continued their hunt for two more goals, time soon ran out for the ‘Sharks’ and Carlos Hidalgo ended all hope with his goal for 1-2 in the 93rd minute.

The final will be played on November 11 and November 18, with Pasto hosting the first meeting while the second takes place in Bogota.
