Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez again called on U.S. President Obama to reconsider his nation’s desire to use Colombia’s airbases for U.S. military activities.
Chavez’s call came on Wednesday, following a United Nations General Assembly in which two U.S. congressmen formally proposed that Venezuela be included in a list of state sponsors of terrorism, reported newspaper El Espectador on Thursday.
The Venezuelan President reacted by declaring the U.S an “evil empire … a thousand times accursed, someday it will sink in black history.”
Chavez went on to ask Obama to “consider the case of Colombia … to work together for peace there and seek a solution to a conflict that continues to hurt Colombians and the people of neighboring countries,” referring to Venezuela and Ecuador as those most affected by Colombia’s conflict as well as the imminent airbase agreement with the U.S.
Diplomatic relations remain frozen between Venezuela and Colombia since July when Colombia launched the agreement with the Washington to allow U.S. military personnel to have access to at least seven airbases throughout Colombia.
