There is not enough evidence to prove that former Colombian Navy Admiral Gabriel Arango Bacci received money from drug traffickers, the prosecutor on the case told the Supreme Court Wednesday.
Arango Bacci is on trial because he allegedly accepted money from drug traffickers in exchange of coordinates of counternarcotics vessels.
But according prosecutor Jesus Antonio Marin, there is not enough evidence to prove the leaking of information or the receiving of money.
Arango Bacci has been under investigation since August 2007.
The Admiral, who headed the navy’s Caribbean fleet at the time, was fired earlier over accusations that traffickers for the Norte del Valle cartel and drug gangs from the Caribbean coast paid him for information on the movements of drug patrols off Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Arango Bacci has always claimed to be the victim of a conspiracy.
