Colombian President Alvaro Uribe demands there be a full report on the agricultural subsidy scandal on his desk before Saturday.
With this report, the Head of State hopes to preside a special anti-corruption council this weekend.
The country’s current and former Agriculture Ministers are currently being investigated by the Inspector General’s Office over their alleged knowledge of the granting of government funds to rich and powerful families in the north of Colombia, while the subsidy was intended for small farmers.
According to newspaper El Espectador, it is all but certain the president will have a full report before the weekend, as he earlier ordered the publicizing of a complete list of beneficiaries of the Agro Ingreso Seguro (AIS) subsidy, which so far has not happened.
Coalition lawmakers in Congress, where support grows for a motion to censor current Agriculture Minister Andres Fernandez, announced to wait for the anti-corruption council before deciding on the censure motion.
