Governor Antonio Navarro Wolf, assigned by the Colombian government to mediate improved relationships with Ecuador, is positive his mission will be successful.
Navarro Wolf had his first contact with Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa over the weekend after Colombian President Alvaro Uribe had asked him to mediate between the countries in order to improve the ties that were strained in March 2008 after Colombia attacked a FARC camp on Ecuadorean soil without consulting the neighboring country.
“There is willingness both in Quito and Bogota to proceed in the resumption of relations between both countries,” the Governor of Nariño told Caracol Radio.
Navarro Wolf said there are still issues that are blocking a swift normalization of relations, but that the tone in statements made by Uribe and Correa create a chance to resolve the dispute.
